Things to Do in North York This Thanksgiving Weekend |
PumpkinFest, the final farmers' market and easy fall outings for October 9–12 |

Thanksgiving weekend brings several easy reasons to stay local in North York, with pumpkins, a final farmers' market, fall colour and outdoor activities all landing around the October 9 to 12 long weekend.
If you are searching for things to do in North York this weekend, start with the events that are actually happening close to home.
PumpkinFest at Downsview Park runs October 9 to 12 and is the biggest family-focused event of the weekend.
Downsview Park lists the Thanksgiving-weekend festival as a paid family event with food and outdoor activities, while current event listings include a pumpkin patch, games, entertainment and other seasonal attractions.
For a free outing before the weekend begins, North York Farmers' Market holds its final scheduled market of the season on Thursday, October 8 at Mel Lastman Square.
The City of Toronto lists the market among the square's October events, making it a useful stop for anyone doing Thanksgiving shopping or simply wanting one last visit before the season ends.
North York's parks are another strong option over the long weekend, especially if the weather cooperates.
Earl Bales Park has wooded trails through deciduous forest, and the City specifically notes the colourful display created by its maples, oaks and ash in fall.
G. Ross Lord Park is another good choice, with more than four kilometres of trails, picnic sites, ponds and room for walking or bird watching.
If you would rather keep the outing simple, a neighbourhood fall walk can be just as worthwhile as a ticketed attraction.
The Thanksgiving weekend falls during one of the best periods for changing leaves in southern Ontario, so ravines and tree-lined parks can turn an ordinary walk into a seasonal outing.
Families planning ahead should also note that North York's October calendar continues after Thanksgiving, with Harry Potter: Visions of Magic scheduled at YZD beginning October 16 and the North York Diwali Festival at Mel Lastman Square October 23 to 25.
For this weekend, though, the simplest plan is to combine one scheduled event with some outdoor time: PumpkinFest for a bigger family outing, the farmers' market for a quick local stop, or one of North York's parks for a low-cost fall afternoon.
Event schedules, admission and weather conditions can change, so check the organizer's official page before heading out. |

G. Ross Lord Park sounds like the better choice for a long walk. Four kilometres of trails is plenty for me.
I didn’t realize this was the last market of the season at Mel Lastman Square. Might have to stop by.
Earl Bales is usually lovely when the leaves change. Hoping the weather holds up this weekend!
Glad the farmers' market is still on Thursday. I need a few things for Thanksgiving dinner.
PumpkinFest at Downsview sounds like a good outing for the kids. I’ll check the admission price first!
